About MYF

General Information

Muskego Youth Football (MYF) competes in the All-American Youth Football League (AAYFL) for 5th-8th graders and the Southeast Wisconsin Youth Football Alliance (SEYFA) for 1st-4th graders, alongside teams from Southeastern Wisconsin communities.

• SEYFA League (1st-4th Grade): Open to all players with no residency or school enrollment restrictions. MYF forms teams based on participation, combining 1st and 2nd graders, with separate teams for 3rd and 4th grades.

• AAYFL League (5th-8th Grade): Players must live within the Muskego-Norway School District boundary or be enrolled in a school within this boundary if residing outside Muskego. MYF typically fields two teams (Red and Black) per grade level.

Practice

Football practices typically start in the first week of August at Bay Lane Elementary School in Muskego. Individual coaches set practice schedules, generally holding 4-5 sessions per week before the school year and 3 sessions per week during the school year, with fewer practices for 1st and 2nd graders.

Muskego Youth Football promotes the growth of well-rounded individuals, supporting diverse activities and interests. However, a successful youth football program depends on the dedication of players, parents, and coaches. August practices are critical for team development, physical conditioning, and player evaluations, so players are expected to attend every session. Coaches strongly recommend scheduling vacations before the football season begins.

Per WIAA regulations, a minimum of 10 hours of conditioning is required before contact in football. This is a baseline and does not fully cover the preparation needed for individual or team readiness.

Attendance at practices is mandatory. If a player misses a practice during the week, their eligibility to play in that week’s game is determined solely by the coaching staff.

Games

Games are scheduled by the individual leagues (AAYFL & SEYFA) and generally involve 7 to 9 games per year. Home games are played at Muskego High School. Away games are played at a variety of locations, generally located in the Milwaukee Metro area. Parents are responsible for transporting athletes to and from games.

Goals

Our 1st-4th grade SEYFA teams will develop into fundamentally strong young football players, mastering the essentials of blocking, tackling, and running with precision. They will also embrace sportsmanship and gain a deep understanding of the game.

Our 5th-8th grade AAYFL teams will build on the SEYFA foundation, reinforcing core fundamentals while introducing advanced football skills. Players will grow more comfortable and aggressive playing in pads, absorbing critical football knowledge. Our goal is to deliver a steady stream of fundamentally sound, aggressive, and football-savvy players to the Muskego High School program.

  • Above all, we prioritize the kids, ensuring football remains fun and rewarding for every player.

Expectations

Attendance: A player who attends practice but cannot participate due to a physical condition is counted as present. If a player is unable to physically participate in at least one weekly practice, the head coach will assess their condition before the game to determine their ability to play.

Team and Position Assignments: Teams are formed based on the athlete’s fall grade, with position eligibility determined by weight restrictions outlined by the program.

Equipment: The registration fee covers a helmet, shoulder pads, game pants, and socks. Players must provide their own mouthguard and football cleats; any additional equipment is at the athlete’s expense. Players are responsible for MYF-issued equipment and must replace items lost, negligently damaged, or not returned, or the equipment deposit check will be cashed. The Board of Directors will announce equipment handout times and locations. If you cannot attend, contact your coach or the Equipment Director. While MYF will strive to provide equipment, timely availability for practice is not guaranteed.

Parent Involvement: Parental support is essential for Muskego Youth Football’s success. Parents must assist with home game operations, and each team is responsible for providing volunteers for both home and away games (e.g., announcing, chain crew, clock, concessions). Insufficient volunteer support may lead to game forfeiture. Parents are also expected to participate in fundraising activities throughout the season.

Pickup Policy: Players must be picked up on time after practices and games.

Program Objectives: Our players are dedicated, competitive student-athletes who maximize every opportunity. For the upcoming season, we aim to provide every child with a structured, fundamentally strong, and competitive program. All players will have equal opportunities to grow and apply their skills, though weekly playing time may vary.

We’re eager to meet you during the season and thank you for your enthusiastic support!

Coaches

All 90+ MYF coaches must pass a Trusted Coaches-verified background check each season they coach. Additionally, every coach is required to obtain USA Football Tackle Certification, which involves over 2 hours of training and exams annually. Player safety is MYF’s top priority!

History

Muskego Youth Football traces its roots back over 30 years to Benny Lewis, who founded the program as the Muskego Chargers, later known as the Jr. Warriors. Originally part of the Wisconsin All-American Youth Football League (AAYFL), the organization fielded teams for 5th through 8th grades.

In 2005, Doug Roskopf established Muskego Wind Lake Youth Football, affiliated with the Racine Youth Sports League (RYS). This program aligned with Muskego High School, adopting the same offensive and defensive schemes, and included players from 1st through 8th grades.

In 2010, Benny Lewis passed leadership of the Jr. Warriors to Doug Roskopf and the Muskego Wind Lake Youth Football group. Major changes were deferred due to timing, but in 2011, the program restructured to form the current Muskego Youth Football framework. This included adding two teams per grade level in the AAYFL. Unlike AAYFL’s lack of a 100% participation rule, MYF implemented a policy aiming for 22 starters per team, with 20-22 starters targeted for 5th-7th grades and approximately 20 for 8th grade. Teams were evenly divided into Red and Black squads, with team sizes ranging from 26 to 31 players based on grade-level participation.

After the 2011 season, Doug Roskopf stepped down as President, and Thomas Fredrick took over. In 2012, the Jr. Warriors and Muskego Wind Lake Youth Football merged to officially become Muskego Youth Football.
